PopCap’s Dave Roberts spoke with TechFlash recently , and revealed that about 25% of the company’s profits are coming from the mobile division. You’d think that the iPhone would be a huge part of that (and it is), but it turns out the iPhone isn’t alone — Java/BREW versions of the games are also very popular for older wireless phones. In that sense, PopCap is a different iPhone game company — rather than depending...

I’ve never used one of the HDR apps, so I was eager to try out this new feature using iOS 4.1 on my iPhone 4. Launching the camera now gives you an HDR option at the top of your screen. It’s automatically set to off. When you toggle the option on, it will automatically switch the camera flash to off. Using HDR will provide you with two shots — one normal shot and one with HDR utilized. For my test subjects I used: A shot of a...

Apple has updated its Game Centre overview page today to provide details on which devices will be supported when the social gaming network goes live on Wednesday with the release of the new iOS 4.1 update. There are a lot of weird texting applications for the iPhone, and some of them are pretty hinky in terms of design or function. But Texto is probably the best looking SMS app I’ve seen — it doesn’t do any weird non-SMS text messaging or have all kinds of neon graphics running around. All it does is hook up with your iPhone’s standard texting service to let you get quick shortcuts to your most commonly used people and messages....

The careful readers at Engadget have noticed that Apple cut a few corners (so to speak) on its website documentation for the latest iPod touch. There’s no ear speaker or phone service on the device, obviously, but nevertheless Apple’s iPod touch display units show that the Phone app is still sitting down there in the lower left corner. Searching in Spotlight, according to another screenshot, will bring up the text messaging app, and...

Nike has released its Nike+ GPS app in to the App Store this morning, and it allows users with a GPS enabled device to track their runs without the $19 Nike+ shoe sensor accessory. Record your pace, distance and the route you ran using just your device’s built-in GPS and accelerometer. It’s a $1.99 app  Read More →

I finally picked up an iPhone 4 last Friday, and one of the best things about the new handset is the beautiful shots I’ve taken with the camera. I’m not a professional photographer by any stretch, and people who have actually done tilt-shift photography might have a whole lot of bones to pick with the “’shopped” version of the technique, but I’ve already had plenty of enjoyment from TiltShift Generator Free...

Good news, everyone! The software update that was “coming soon” to resolve iOS 4.0’s terrible performance on the iPhone 3G has gone “gold master” (GM) and should be available to the general public next week . I’ve had the opportunity to test this update out on my wife’s iPhone 3G , and I’m happy to report that it does indeed appear to resolve all the stuttering, crashing…  Read More →

Normally, to get a game of Tichu going, you need to round up three friends. If you don’t have any card-playing friends who know Tichu, then maybe you have to tell them you’re going to have a Bridge party, then *bam!* you bust out the 56-card Tichu deck at the last minute. This sort of gamer subterfuge is a thing of the past, thanks to the brand-new Tichu app from Steve Blanding. Now, any number of players can enjoy the card game at...

As an iPhone user I have always shied away from cases as I have never found one that enhances the design of the iPhone rather than devaluing it. But the latest version of Grove’s Bamboo case for iPhone 4 is a game changer. It is hands down the best case I have ever used or  Read More →

Chuck Gnome was chosen as our Daily App here on the site about a month ago, and now Movable Sprites has offered us a few copies to give away to you readers. Since we last posted about it, the game has updated to version 1.1 and added in a new episode, a new mini game, new music, and lots more. Plus, the price was lowered to 99 cents (and there’s still a lite version available for you to check out). But if a buck…  Read More →

Gamasutra cornered Epic Games’ Mike Capps (he of the very impressive Epic Citadel demo yesterday at the Apple special event), and Capps confirms that what you see running on your iPhone is the real deal — Unreal Engine 3, with all of the bells and whistles that it has on the major HD consoles. The actual game that Project Sword will become is being designed by Chair (which is the same group that did the popular Shadow Complex game...
