10.6 Server: How to get NFS disk serving working properly

You may be surprised to learn that if you follow the detailed 136 page instructions for setting up an NFS disk server that Apple provides for the OS X server machines, it won’t actually work. The problem is the firewall. Unlike the non-server OS, which has an application firewall, the Server OS uses IPFW, which is port-based not application-based. This means every service that takes inbound connections has to have fixed port range assignments so you can tell IPFW which port to open. NFS required the RPC deamon, and by default, RPC takes whatever ports are free at the moment and does not keep them fixed. You need to fix these to specific ports by hand because the …

Mac OS X Server 10.6 (experimental)...Problems running Mac OS X 10.6.2 on VMware Workstation 7 under 64-bit Win 7. Crash in verbose mode @1:20. Image is from TPB: "Fully Functional mac OS X 10.6.2 vmware image (intel)". My hardware is Vaio VPCF11M1E: Core i5 520M @ 2,4GHz Intel PM55 Chipset - Intel VMM (VT-d) enabled in BIOS. GeForce GT 330M 2 x 2048 DDR3 Update: I've also tried boot parameters: "-v cpus=1 busratio=18 -x GraphicsEnabler=No" ...but no luck. Starting to think it's kernel problem since installation from Hazards Intel_AMD ISO worked OK with the pre-made VMDK from here: www.ihackintosh.com I selected Intel Atom kernel. (captured with vmware movie capture, different resolutions make the video look a bit weird, sorry)
